First sizing project using 3D body scanners for NEXT

In 1996 Select were commissioned by NEXT, one of the UK’s largest clothing retailers to undertake the first ever large scale project using new 3D technology to measure the human body.

Housed in 3D body scanning booths, this new technology allowed length and circumference measurements of the human body to be collected digitally, as opposed to collecting manual measurements with a tape measure.

Select measured over 2,600 women of all ages and sizes across the UK in this project for NEXT. It is believed to be the first ever large-scale retail sizing survey on clothing fit to have been undertaken using 3D measuring technology.
